The Queen meets the King!
For those who don’t know her from her previous concerts here, Mimi Blais is a French Canadian pianist and composer who began to study piano at age 7 and gave her first concert at the age of 9. After training at the Quebec Conservatory of Music and McGill University, she embarked on a career as a classical musician, but — after stumbling upon some sheet music by the ragtime-influenced composer Jean-Baptiste Lafrenière — soon found her way to the rags of Scott Joplin, Tom Turpin, and Joseph Lamb. She gave her first all-ragtime concert in 1990, and has since played concerts across Canada, the United States, and Europe. Her expert technique, her encyclopedic knowledge of music history, and her inimitable sense of humor have earned her the title The Queen of Ragtime.
In this special concert, she’ll be paying tribute to the man who started it all: Scott Joplin, the King of Ragtime, who died in 1917 at the age of 48.
“It’s always a treat to see and hear Mimi Blais perform… If you love ragtime or simply want to hear a great pianist play, go way out of your way to see her.”

“Flamboyant, theatrical, lively, and above all, funny.”
